Sam Smith reported spat at in the street after identifying as non-binary
Sam Smith, the 30-year-old singer and hitmaker of "Unholy," revealed that they were spat at in the street after coming out as non-binary and changing their pronouns to they/them in 2019.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Smith said that while there have been no issues with their new gender identity in their personal life, they have faced harassment on the streets of England.
They added that it is sad that in 2023, this type of behaviour is still happening and that it is especially exhausting in England.
Smith also mentioned that they wish they had known about the words for non-binary identity when they were in school, as it is who they have always been.
