Delete TikTok or face the danger of your data being exposed, warns MP

TikTok, a widely used video-sharing platform with over a billion users, has caused concern due to its connection to Chinese parent company ByteDance.

Despite not facing a ban in the UK, the chair of the foreign affairs committee, Alicia Kearns, has advised users to delete the app from their devices, warning that it exposes personal data to "hostile" threats, particularly from the Chinese government.

TikTok has denied any transfer of user information to the government.

Kearns stated that keeping TikTok installed on one's phone creates a vulnerability for personal data. She emphasised that it is not worth the risk and advised users to delete the app "without question." Despite its popularity, especially among teenagers, TikTok has faced growing criticism for the amount of information it collects from users' phones.
