Facebook and Instagram will be allowing Donald Trump back on their platforms, after the social media giant announced it will be ending the two-year suspension of his accounts.

The ban will be lifted in the coming weeks, according to a statement by Meta's President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg. He stated that the public should be able to hear what their politicians are saying, and that the suspension was an extraordinary decision made in extraordinary circumstances.

A review has now determined that Trump's accounts no longer pose a significant risk to public safety. However, due to his past violations, he will face harsher penalties for any future offenses. The decision to reinstate Trump on the platforms was made by Meta and not by its Oversight Board, which had previously called for the suspension to be revisited and for Meta to be more transparent about its policies concerning public figures.
